A Great Worship Thought

This past weekend at Word of Life's Teens Involved (TI) regional competition, I was able to judge the jr. high preaching category. In one of those messages (truly missiles as they were only 10 minutes in length), one of the lads was speaking of the greatness of God. His topic was the reverence and respect that God is due. As he concluded his message he made this great statement,

"It just makes sense to reverence God."
Indeed, it does just make sense, good sense.

Well-said lad,
Mike

Sense comes from understanding. It only makes sense to reverence God if we know Him and are starting to understand who He is.

Sometimes we say things from a religious environment that don't make any sense to the unsaved people around us.

A good thought but not true for everyone.

No, sorry Dad. I left out some of the details. He was totally setting up that conclusion. He was speaking of the understanding of God's character and that generated the conclusion.

And sorry again, it does make sense. Whether people respond to it or not. The sense of the thing does NOT come from understanding. Sense comes from TRUTH. It is or it isn't sensical.

It is still a good thought. :)
If you are right, there is at least a day coming when it will make sense - every knee will bow then!

would that be considered "unresistable reverence"? Once you understand who God is more fully the more it makes sense to worship Him.??

I have never heard of irresistible reverence. I wonder if the Phil 2 reverence is the real irresistible reverence. I do not get the sense that the knee bowing or the confession here is voluntary. It is a "reflex" action I think.

God deserves reverence, it just makes sense to give it to Him. But he does not force us to respond to Him in that way. Why not? I would I were Him! But that's the beauty of it; I am not!

BTW- Sand beach is sandy -- just not in the picture. This pic in the sidebar is simply my fav b/c it showcases 1. the day we had at Acadia, 2. the classic Maine coastline against the wide open waters
